A WordPress Multi-Site For International NGO

A multi-site WordPress network for Democracy Reporting International: their existing content migrated intact, a flexible block system any editor can use, one publish action that reaches every site.

Project

Democracy Reporting International is a not-for-profit organisation and think tank registered in Berlin. Their work spans democracy support across many countries, which means a steady stream of news, projects and research that has to reach a broad public audience and stay easy to manage internally.

We rebuilt their digital presence as a large-scale WordPress network: off an outdated platform onto a modern, responsive site, with full editorial control through a flexible block system. Several sites run from one place, so content is published once and reaches the whole network.

The challenge

Every meaningful page change went back to a developer.

DRI's old platform had become a bottleneck. Content was locked into rigid templates, which is slow for an organisation that publishes constantly. That content also lived on an ageing system that had to move without loss, and they ran more than one site with no shared way to manage or republish across them.

They needed a modern, responsive site, a content model their own team could edit without technical support, a multi-site setup where a single piece of content reaches every site in the network.

Flexible block system

Build any page from blocks. No ticket, no developer.

Every page is assembled from a library of editable content blocks. The DRI team adds, reorders and restyles sections themselves, with no code and no developer wait.

Multi-site architecture

Several sites. One platform. One place to manage them.

The network runs on WordPress Multisite, so DRI manages multiple sites from a single installation: shared users, shared blocks, one set of standards. Each site keeps its own front-end identity.

Content broadcasting

Publish to one site, reach the whole network.

Broadcasting pushes a single piece of content across multiple sites at once. A news item published in one place appears wherever it should, with no copy-and-paste site by site.

Content migration

The whole archive moved across, intact.

Everything on the old platform came over without breaking links, losing structure or dropping pages, then was re-mapped into the block-based model and DRI's five focus areas.
